Department of Energy (DOE) Notice of Intent to Issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Energy Technology Deployment on Tribal Lands – 2025
February 3, 2025
May 31, 2025
Background
DOE has issued a notice of intent to release a NOFO to promote energy independence and economic development, with the ancillary benefit of providing employment on Tribal Lands through the use of commercially warrantied energy technology that eligible applicants believe are best suited to meet their needs, their location, and their available energy resources.
DOE plans to solicit applications under four Areas of Interest (AOI):
1. AOI 1: Install energy generating system(s) and/or energy efficiency measure(s) for Tribal Building(s)
2. AOI 2: Deploy community-scale energy generating system(s) or community energy storage on Tribal Lands
3. AOI 3: Install integrated energy system(s) for autonomous operation (independent of the traditional centralized electric power grid) to power a single or multiple Essential Tribal Building(s) during emergency situations or for tribal community resilience
4. AOI 4: Power unelectrified Tribal Buildings
Under the planned NOFO, DOE anticipates making approximately $25 million in funding available.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants include Indian Tribes, which include Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, intertribal organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations. Applications from consortiums of Indian Tribes will be accepted but must be submitted by a single Indian Tribe acting as the Applicant and representing the Consortium.
Important Dates
DOE plans to issue the NOFO in spring of 2025.
With the increasing number of opportunities of interest to CTE and our members, we are not able to pursue projects to the same extent as we have in the past. However, if you are interested in pursuing funding under this opportunity, CTE may be able to support your application through our Grant Writing as a Service program. If you have questions regarding this program please contact Wendy Morgan ([email protected]).
